Description

1955 Brooklyn Dodgers Game Issued Jersey. Road grey flannel never made it into action that most glorious of Flatbush seasons, but one top Bum realized what a special piece it was after the Yanks were finally vanquished and kept it for his personal collection. According to our consignor, he acquired the jersey at a sports collectibles show from the great Pee Wee Reese, who had spotted the shirt in the Ebbets Field clubhouse after the 1955 World Series was over and thought the number "55" jersey might be a nice keepsake to mark the historic occasion. "Dodgers" is spelled across the chest in the unmistakable team script in the same blue felt that forms the digits on verso. "Rawlings Hall of Fame Flannel [size] 44" tagging appears inside collar, and a washing instructions tag is hidden away inside the left front tail. Some apparent rust staining is present at the upper chest and shoulders, but the shirt has no faults otherwise. We'd have to agree with Pee Wee--this is a pretty neat piece! LOA from Lou Lampson.
