1954 Don Zimmer Game Worn Brooklyn Dodgers Rookie Jersey. One of the sport's greatest ambassadors was lost in June of this year when death brought an end to Don Zimmer's sixty-six years in professional baseball. Presented is an extraordinary memento from his first season in the Majors, worn as he filled in for Hall of Fame shortstop Pee Wee Reese while battling to chase down the rival New York Giants for the National League flag. The garment has survived the passage of six decades without so much as a small stain or moth hole to diminish its aesthetics, appearing exactly as it did on the shoulders of the twenty-three year old rookie. "Dodgers" appears in blue felt script across the chest, with number "23" similarly applied to reverse. Interior collar holds the proper "MacGregor size 40" manufacturer's label above an embroidered white felt swatch reading "Zimmer." A "Set 1 1954" flap tag at lower interior button path provides the delectable vintage. A simply flawless representation from a special era in Big Apple baseball. LOA from Heritage Auctions.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
