1954-55 Davey Williams Game Worn New York Giants Uniform. Davey Williams has a footnote in baseball history. An All-Star in 1953, Williams was enjoying another good season when one moment altered his career. The Giants and Dodgers have always had a heated rivalry. In a game in 1954, Sal Maglie brushed back Jackie Robinson with some chin music. Robinson retaliated by bunting down the first base line in hopes of Maglie fielding the ball. The first baseman fielded the bunt and Williams hustled to cover the bag, colliding with Robinson on the play. This aggravated an existing back injury for Williams and he was never quite the same.

This "Tim McAuliffe size 42" road jersey was likely worn in the 1954 World Series and carried over for use the following season. Teams often created a fresh set of uniforms for the World Series and commonly used them the following season. This complete jersey and matching pants shows light overall use. Provenance is secure as a letter from Williams' daughter will accompany. Letter of provenance from Davey Williams' daughter. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
