    Description

1952 Brooklyn Dodgers Game Worn "Field of Dreams" Jersey. Like "Moonlight" Graham from the famous Kevin Costner film, the original owner of this home white flannel jersey made only a single appearance on baseball's grand stage. A journeyman catcher in the Dodger organization, Dick Teed was used exclusively as a bullpen catcher during his brief stay in Flatbush. But all that changed on June 24, 1953, when Walt Alston tapped him on the shoulder and told him that he wanted him to pinch hit for Rube Walker. With a bat gripped tightly in his hands, Teed strode to the plate at Ebbets, finally realizing a dream he had carried with him for all twenty-seven years of his life. And he struck out. Check your reference books and you'll see that it all ended as quickly as it began, and Teed would never again see Major League action, relegated to being a lifetime .000 hitter with a single at-bat. This home white flannel jersey is very likely the one Teed was wearing on that wonderful and sad day. "Dodgers" slants across the chest in the classic blue felt script, with the number "50" in red marking the first season of this characteristic style. Number "50" is repeated in blue on verso. Tagging inside collar is proper "Rawlings St. Louis [size] 42." Though embroidery in the tail reads "Teed 52," it's likely that he would have used this jersey again in '53, having never seen action in his first year with the club. Regardless, any Brooklyn Dodgers flannel is a highly desirable piece, and it displays wonderfully with moderate and even toning and a few very small moth holes. Acquired from a former minor leaguer who was issued this jersey as a Class D Dodgers farm hand over half a century ago. LOA from Dan Knoll & Dave Bushing/ SCD Authentic.
