Classic format from the three-time National League MVP!

1950's Roy Campanella Game Worn Brooklyn Dodgers Warm-Up Jacket, MEARS Authentic. The humble backstop may not have garnered the attention that followed Jackie, Pee Wee and the Duke during that most glorious era of New York City baseball, but there was arguably no more essential component in the sustained success of those last Brooklyn Dodgers teams than Roy Campanella. "He was always doing something to help you win a game, whether it was digging out a low pitch, throwing out a baserunner, or hitting a home run," explained Dodgers manager, Walt Alston, reporting the facts that earned Campy three National League MVP Awards during the first half of the 1950's.

The tragic 1957 automobile accident that brought a sudden end to his Major League service failed to block Campanella's path to Cooperstown, but succeeded in establishing game used artifacts from his historic decade at Ebbets to be among the toughest of post-war Hall of Famers. Here's a gorgeous example of the Bums' dugout jacket, seen in countless cold weather images from those years when the Dodgers and Yankees turned virtually every World Series into the "Subway" variety.

It's crafted from blue satin with a toasty faux fur interior lining, and elasticized striped detailing at collar, cuffs and waist. Lower front interior tail bears a proper "MacGregor Goldsmith Size 44" label just a couple inches from an embroidered "39" swatch affixed to the bottom of the interior zipper path. Significant wear is evident but the garment displays beautifully, with some minor moth damage fortuitously confined to a rather limited area of the rear of the elasticized waistband. Zipper front remains functional. A marvelous exemplar that will please even the most discerning of uniform collectors. LOA from MEARS, Authentic. LOA from Heritage Auctions.

Guide Value or Estimate: $30,000 - up.
