    Description

1950's Augie Donatelli Game Worn Umpiring Uniform. A tailgunner in a B-17 bomber during World War II, Donatelli was shot down over Berlin and spent fifteen months in a German prisoner of war camp, where he got his start in the business umpiring softball games for fellow POW's. After being freed by the Soviet army, he made his way back to the States, enrolled in Bill McGowan's school, and eventually made his way to the Bigs, umpiring five World Series and four All-Star Games during his long officiating career. Here we present the first uniform we've ever encountered from this popular man in black, featuring his jacket, pants and cap. Jacket has "Uniforms by Fechheimer" label in collar, and another at inside chest pocket with a typed "A. Donatelli, CH-42." Pants and cap have no attribution, though they did come with the jacket, and the former features an embroidered "Plate" swatch at the interior waistband. A neat addition to any fine Major League uniform collection, and an ensemble you don't see every day. LOA from Lou Lampson. Guide Value or Estimate: $600 - $800.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
