    1949 Memphis Chickasaws Game Worn Jersey Attributed to Luke Appling with Family Provenance. Road gray flannel is a six-button front with blue piping around the collar, button path, and sleeve cuffs. "Chicks is scripted across the chest, all sewn-on in in blue chenille twill atop gray twill. Also, "2" appears on the verso, all sewn-on in blue twill. Best of all is the spectacular multi-colored Indian head patch on the left sleeve in red, green, blue, pink, black, white, and beige chenille. The jersey features a "MacGregor Goldsmith Size 40" label in the collar and a "Set 1 1949" flap tag in the interior button path.

    This exemplar exhibits heavy minor league use and may have had a number change. The jersey is attributed to Hall of Famer Luke Appling, who managed the Chicks in 1951-53 and 1959, and is accompanied by a signed letter of provenance from Luke Appling's granddaughter.
