1948 Stan Musial Game Worn St. Louis Cardinals Jersey--National League MVP Season! It's considered one of the greatest seasons in Major League history, an offensive performance so dominant that Musial didn't just lead the League in ten categories, he obliterated it. His 103 extra-base hits was twenty-eight better than the runner-up. Other margins of victory: 429 total bases (113 more), .702 slugging percentage (138 points higher), .376 batting average (42 points higher), 230 hits (40 more), 135 runs (18 more). His 131 runs batted in, forty-six doubles and eighteen triples each led the second-place contender by a half dozen. A single long ball denied him the National League Triple Crown, his career-best thirty-nine one fewer than the forty posted by Hall of Fame sluggers Johnny Mize and Ralph Kiner. The voting for MVP, properly and predictably, was a landslide in The Man's favor.Presented is one of the most important and desirable post-war jerseys available in the collecting hobby, a creamy home white flannel that thrilled Sportsman's Park throughout this season for the ages. The classic birds and bat logo in its distinctive chenille format adorns the chest, traversing a full-functional zipper and the wide red piping that runs the perimeter of its path and extends to the shoulders and sleeve cuffs. The fabled number "6" remains affixed to verso in red and navy felt, a digit retired from service along with The Man himself on September 29, 1963. Interior collar holds "Rawlings St. Louis" manufacturer's label (worn at upper edge), above a "Dry Clean Only" tag just below. Lower left front tail announces the delectable vintage with "Musial 48" embroidered directly into the jersey body.
Some scattered minor staining, centralized at interior collar and lower ribs, does little to distract the eye and certainly falls well short of diminishing the enormous aesthetic and historical appeal.
