Description

1947 Chicago Cubs Complete Game Worn Uniform. Norman Rockwell immortalized this Cubs road format in his 1948 painting, "The Dugout," and this is the first complete uniform of that style we've ever encountered. The grey flannel jersey was originally issued to catcher Mickey Livingston, as the embroidered name in the collar (his given name was Thompson) indicates, beneath the standard "Wilson [size] 44" labeling. Chest features the arched "Chicago" in navy felt, underlined in red. Uniquely fonted number "11" appears on verso. We aren't sure that the "1-44-1947" in the tail is original to production, but it's professional quality and was surely done at the factory or team level.

Matching pants were issued to Stan Hack, as "S Hack 6" at interior waistband affirms, again below a "Wilson" label. And, once again, we find secondary embroidery on this garment, at interior fly, reading, "S. Hack, 1-6-47" in the same style as the jersey. "Wilson" cap appears to be size "7 3/8," but size tag is difficult to read after years of fading. No player identifier appears in the cap or in the white socks or two pairs of stirrups that make this a truly comprehensive uniform set. Solid game wear apparent throughout, with a few minor moth holes on the jersey that are only apparent upon close inspection. All pieces are determined to be original and unaltered (with possible exception of aforementioned embroidery). LOA from Heritage Auctions.
