    Description

1947-48 Nanny Fernandez & Paul Burris Game Worn Boston Braves Jersey. A signed letter from Burris tells the tale [excerpted]: "The uniform was originally 'Nanny' Fernandez's uniform. He was not with the Braves in 1948, and I became a Brave late in 1948 and was issued a different player's uniform because it was too late in the season for the Braves organization to make new uniforms for me. Henceforth, I took the uniform home with me after the 1948 season." That 1948 season, as we all know, ended in spectacular fashion for the Braves, who swept Feller, Lemon and the rest of the heavily-favored Cleveland Indians in four World Series games to stun the baseball community.

The road grey style worn by Burris that season ranks high on most historians' lists of the most beautiful Major League jerseys of all time, featuring red and black "Braves" script with a gorgeous tomahawk patch on the zippered chest, and the stunning early-format Indian head patch on left sleeve. Number "11" appears in two-tone felt on verso. Proper "Horace Partridge" label at interior collar is joined by embroidered "Fernandez" swatch, which has been tacked down beside a period team repair. Some fraying of the colorful jersey trim is to be expected, and does little to distract from the marvelous aesthetics. A marvelous World Championship season relic. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Letter of provenance from Paul Burris.
