1946 Duke Snider Game Worn Fort Worth Cats Jersey with Photo Match. This important and incredibly rare jersey was recently discovered in the attic of a newly purchased Fort Worth home once owned by the statistician for the Cats minor league ballclub. To the best of our knowledge, it stands as the earliest known Duke Snider gamer, and the only one to predate his ascension to the Major Leagues with the Brooklyn Dodgers.

The Fort Worth Cats became a farm club of the Brooklyn Dodgers just after the war, a Double-A member of the Texas League. Snider was nineteen when he came to the team, fresh out of military service and still three seasons away from his official rookie year with the Brooklyn Dodgers. The young future Hall of Famer proved himself worthy of a bump up to the Triple-A St. Paul Saints of the American Association during his 1946 campaign with the Cats, batting .250 in 232 at-bats with nineteen for extra bases including five homers.

His road grey jersey is constructed of professional quality flannel, with proper "Spalding [size] 42" labeling inside the collar and the local Texas "C&S Sporting Goods Co." label at lower left front tail. A simple block-lettered "Fort Worth" in dark navy felt arches gently across the chest, giving way to his familiar number "4" on verso, a digit which was retired by the Cats in May 2003. Solid wear is evident, but there are is no staining, tearing or other damage to report. A computer printed photograph of Snider wearing this jersey is included. It must be stressed that the style represented was used for just a single season in Fort Worth, and that Snider was the only player ever to wear the number "4" jersey of this style. The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
