1946-48 Ernie White Game Worn Boston Braves Satin Jersey & Alvin Dark Pants - Rare Style, MEARS A9/Authentic. Baseball uniforms have transformed through the years. Flannels eventually gave way to knits which morphed into Dri-Fit material. One of the concepts which fell by the wayside were the satin uniforms worn mostly during the 1940's (although examples in the 1930's and 1950's do exist). The Cincinnati Reds, St. Louis Cardinals, Brooklyn Dodgers, and Boston Braves added quite a bit of personality to their attire when they opted to wear silk uniforms which was intended to make it easier to see players under the lights. The players complained that the jerseys were uncomfortable and the idea never gained much traction.

The home white heavy white satin jersey has a six-button front with "Braves" across the chest and "29" on the verso, all sewn on in red satin twill trimmed in black. The "tomahawk" is also beautifully crafted on the front in black satin twill with pink and gold trim. Meanwhile, the shoulders and sleeves are adorned with thick, red satin stripes. The collar contains a black/gold "Horace Partridge" label and a size "42" flap tag, with "8110" stamped into the inner tail.

The matching home white satin pants feature red satin belt loops around the waist and red satin leg striping. A "Horace Partridge" label and size "36" flap tag reside in the waist, along with "23" (Alvin Dark in 1946) in red on white felt, "Sanders 4" (Ray Sanders, 1946 and 1948) in vintage laundry marker, and "8110" stamped in black. Some light staining is evident on both pieces which doesn't significantly detract form the incredible visual appeal of the ensemble. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
