    Description

1945 Len Schulte Game Worn St. Louis Browns Jersey & Pants. The St. Louis Browns were an exercise in futility for the majority of their fifty-two-year history, recording forty-one sub-.500 seasons and ten dead-last finishes. The rare exceptions to this rule occurred in 1902 (when they finished five games behind the Athletics), 1922 (when they finished one game behind the Yankees), and their "war years" renaissance (1942-45), which included two third place finishes and the miracle season of 1944 when they captured their one and only American League pennant.

One of the iconic uniform styles of the 1940's, this complete St. Louis Browns home flannel uniform dates from the "war years" and includes both the jersey and pants. Original, unrestored and intact, with "Browns" arched across the chest and "1" on the verso in brown/orange drop-shadow felt. Ornate brown satin trim and orange braid adorns the outer collar, button path and sleeves. Five brown-button front with original stars and stripes war patch on the left sleeve.

"Rawlings, St, Louis" and "42" tagging resides in the collar with "Schulte 45" in the tail in thick, brown chainlink. Pants sport manufacturer and size tags along with "Schulte" in brown chainlink on cream felt swatch.

In 1945, infielder Len Schulte hit .247 and the defending A.L. champion Browns were a respectable 81-70. The uniform exhibits nice overall wear and tremendous display appeal for any collector of vintage uniforms and/or loveable underdogs. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
