    Description

1941 Brooklyn Dodgers Complete Game Worn Uniform. The first of seven seasons that the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Yankees would meet in a "Subway Series," this inaugural edition is best remembered for Mickey Owen's dropped third strike in Game Four that turned the tides in favor of the Bombers. There's every possibility that this home white full uniform was on hand for that historic event, as its former owner doubled during this Ebbets Field debacle. It appears the jersey was first owned by outfielder Joe Vosmik, who was released by the Dodgers in early July. Apparently Wasdell had a fondness for the number "8" jersey, dropping his number "29" and appropriating this shirt, then removing most of the embroidered "Joe Vosmik" from the collar. The stitching pattern is still discernible, however, upon close inspection, above the "Spalding [size] 44" labeling. The classic blue felts "Dodgers" script slants across the zippered chest, and number "8" appears on verso. A red embroidered "41" appears at inside rear tail. Matching pants, complete with original belt, are tagged "Spalding [size] 38" at interior rear waistband, where "J Wasdell" is embroidered in red. Both jersey and pants exhibit no damage of note. Matching cap exhibits considerable moth damage but still presents quite nicely. "Spalding" label is affixed to leather headband, where "7 Extra" is embroidered in green. Finally, a pair of heavy wool white socks and blue stirrups are here, likewise showing moth damage. Begging for display upon a full-size mannequin, this remarkable complete uniform will make for a striking display. LOA from Lou Lampson. Guide Value or Estimate: $2,000 - $4,000.
