1937 Boston Red Sox Game Worn Jersey. Rare two-year style can be pegged to the latter half of the span by the presence of the number "37" embroidered in red thread directly into the rear tail. The surname of Stewart "Doc" Bowers is embroidered in the collar, a young pitcher from the same Gettysburg College that spawned Eddie Plank. Though Bowers' career was unremarkable, the style was worn on the road by the likes of Hall of Famers Foxx, Ferrell, Cronin, Manush and the great Lefty Grove. The gorgeous road style remains in magnificent condition for display, with none of the typical damage to the felt "Boston" identifier on front nor the number "32" on verso. "Spalding [size] 42" label appears at interior collar. A small stain at lower front tail and a small hole in the grey flannel on verso are noted for the sake of full disclosure, and do little to distract. An included 1985 copy of a Cheyenne, WY newspaper features a story about a minor league team from Hereford, CO that purchased the BoSox' jerseys and "couldn't lose" when wearing the hand-me-downs. This jersey is pictured in the article. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
