    Description

1936 Julius "Moose" Solters Game Worn St. Louis Browns Uniform.
One of the more tragic stories of Major League Baseball, Solters was struck by an errant throw during a pre-game warm-up in 1941, fracturing his skull and ultimately resulting in the loss of his sight two years later. This uniform finds the hard-slugging outfielder in happier times, as the leading run producer (134 RBI's) of the long-suffering Browns.

The road grey flannel jersey announces "St. Louis" on the chest in brown-on-gold felt lettering, with number "5" similarly applied to verso. Interior collar holds "Spalding" manufacturer's label and "Solters 5" embroidered in red directly into the jersey body. The "36" vintage is likewise embroidered into lower right rear tail. A few scattered team repairs appear throughout, the patches apparently sourced from the front tails, which have been hand cut.

Matching pants bear even more extensive repairs and the same "Spalding" label at interior waistband, embroidered "Solters 5, 36" in red. Both garments exhibit wear to the brown and yellow soutache and a sparse scattering of small stains and tiny moth holes. Our catalog and online imagery should convey that the faults are minor distractions, and that this rare full ensemble presents very well. An unrelated blue wool cap is included.
