1935 Tony Cuccinello Game Worn Brooklyn Dodgers Jersey with Matching Pants. Extraordinarily tough pre-war flannel jersey saw action at the Polo Grounds, Forbes Field and the rest of the period's National League parks on the back of the Dodgers' talented second baseman. The rare three-year style was only utilized between 1934 and 1936, though Cuccinello's trade to the Boston Braves in December of 1935 allows us to narrow the range by one third. Bold navy blue and red Old English lettering spells "Brooklyn" in a shallow arc across the chest, with the original number "5" removed from verso but still exhibiting a few cut threads from its original path. One could assume that this removal came at the minor league level, where the jersey was reconditioned for secondary usage.The jersey is consigned by the family of the minor leaguer who wore the shirt as a hand-me-down. "T. Cuccinello" remains embroidered directly into the interior collar beside the ancient square "Spalding" manufacturer's label. The number "35" is similarly chain stitched into lower rear tail. Some rather unusual tailoring features, including an extra button hole at lower chest and a horizontal seam just below the bottom button are noted for the sake of full disclosure, but these cause no distraction and are clearly period alterations. Some mild staining and a small tear at rear tail likewise cause little concern.
Also here is a matching pair of pants worn by the same minor league player, initially owned and used by veteran right-hander "Fat Freddie" Fitzsimmons, who represented the Dodgers between 1937 and 1943. His name is embroidered in red thread at interior waistband, again beside a square "Spalding" logo. Scattered staining and a team repair appear on verso. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
