1924-27 Philadelphia Athletics Game Worn Jersey. Early flannel baseball jerseys are the proverbial needle in a haystack. In the 1920's, jerseys were sometimes used for multiple seasons and even sent down to the minors for further use. By the time the aspiring big leaguers were done with them, most were ready for the incinerator. This rarely encountered "Spalding" jersey was used by a player on the Philadelphia Athletics between 1924-27. The original team emblem, with an elephant standing on two legs, is still featured on front. Someone stenciled in an "A" along the way which has assimilated into the team emblem slightly. Navy piping surrounds the neck and runs down the four-button front. A lone Spalding label is joined by "McH" in the collar. Some red ink saturation is visible on the scribed initials. Ventilation holes are installed under the arms. A very small hole is evident on the reverse, but the jersey still maintains its brilliance. Overall, one of the few surviving flannels from the bygone era. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
