    Description

1921-22 Percy Jones Game Worn Chicago Cubs Jersey. Take a step back in time into a golden age of baseball. The early 1920's were the infancy of the Live Ball Era, when one George Herman "Babe" Ruth was taking the country on his shoulders and ushering it into the Roaring Twenties with his fantastic home run escapades and exuberant lifestyle choices. This was also the era of prohibition, and baseball was the most effective intoxicator on the market to make the nation forget the recent sorrows of Great War and the Black Sox.

The decade would also prove to be a golden age for flannel uniforms and the jersey on offer here is one such example, courtesy of the Chicago Cubs. This cream colored, home jersey is made out of a very heavy woolen flannel fabric, with "CUBS" across the chest in dark blue felt bock letters. The upper most portion of the collar is also comprised of the same dark blue felt and serves as a tremendous accent to the team identifier. The jersey is a pullover with four buttons which run about halfway down the length of the front of the garment. The first three of the buttons are still intact. Under each arm, there is a dedicated, six-hole panel for perspiration ventilation.

Inside the back collar, there resides a delightful manufacturers tag which reads "Thos. E. Wilson & Co., Sporting & Athletic Goods Manufacturers, Chicago, U.S.A." Below that are the stitching remnants where another tag once lay. One of the nicest touches of all on this garment, and once which will surely resonate dearly with vintage uniform collectors, is the player identifier "Jones" which has been lovingly scripted into the left tail in fine, dark blue thread.

The records of the day confirm that Percy Jones pitched for the Chicago Cubs for seven seasons, between 1920 and 1928. But this particular style was only used in 1921-22. Exhibiting fabulous wear but still in exemplary condition, this piece stands as a wonderful representation of an original and unrestored 1920 baseball flannel that would make a worthy addition to any game worn uniform collection.
