He set the single-season record for hits with 262, breaking George Sisler's 84-year-old mark of 257. Ichiro batted an incredible .372, led the league in hits, batting average, and infield singles, and also stole 36 bases. Despite his stellar season, the Seattle Mariners struggled overall and finished last in the AL West.
