Description

1939 Babe Ruth, Clark Griffith, Kenesaw M. Landis & Dizzy Dean Signed Hall of Fame Grand Opening Ticket Stub. The Centennial season is a towering vintage in baseball history, best remembered for Ted Williams' auspicious arrival, Lou Gehrig's tearful farewell, and the grand opening of the Baseball Hall of Fame. This stub recalls that historic afternoon in Cooperstown, where the attendee tracked down a few of the biggest names in the game with pencil in hand.

Verso of the stub is autographed by one man who was enshrined as part of that inaugural Hall of Fame class, and three others who'd be immortalized in later years: Babe Ruth, Clark Griffith, Kenesaw Mountain Landis and Dizzy Dean. The fifth autograph is that of radio broadcaster Arch McDonald, who was reporting for CBS. He'd be posthumously honored at the museum in 1999 with the Ford C. Frick Award given annually to one baseball broadcaster.

The signatures are all 8/10 or better. The front of the ticket exhibits signs of scrapbook removal, but the important text identifying the stub as a grand opening model is still legible. First day cover (unsigned) is included. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from Beckett Authentication Services.
