Southpaw ace Babe Ruth sets his famous mark with 29 2/3 scoreless World Series innings

1918 World Series Game Four Ticket Stub, PSA Authentic. Nearly six decades before a slugger named Reggie Jackson earned the nickname "Mr. October," another man who would claim baseball immortality while clad in Yankee pinstripes was engaged in his own heroic Fall Classic pursuit. Still a little over a year short of the most consequential trade in Major League history, the young George Herman Ruth was making his mark as a pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, a team en route to claiming what would prove to be its last World Championship of the twentieth century.

Presented is one of just two ticket stubs for the historic fourth game of the 1918 World Series to be certified by the experts at PSA, a game in which the twenty-three year old Bambino finally surrendered two eighth inning runs to break a chain of twenty-nine and two-thirds consecutive scoreless innings in October. The streak had begun two years earlier when Ruth rebounded from a first inning home run off the bat of Brooklyn Robins center fielder Hi Myers to complete a fourteen-inning pitcher's duel with a two to one victory. A complete nine inning shutout in Game One of the 1918 Series led to this Game Four contest in which the dazzling feat was enhanced and finally completed.

The stub exhibits handling wear typical of Dead Ball Era paper with tape stains on reverse suggesting a scrapbooking hobby of the ticket's original owner. The relic presents very well despite these minor issues, and certainly the extreme rarity must silence any grumbles about condition. One of the rarest Ruth relics in the hobby. Encapsulated "Authentic" by PSA.
