    Description

1920s Detroit Clowns vs. Illinois Giants of Chicago Baseball Paper Poster. Think Harlem Globetrotters but in clown suits and on the baseball diamond instead of the hardwood. That's what this advertisement appears to be promising. Offered is a clipping promoting barn-storming baseball. Back then, novelty baseball was good business. Detroit's version featured real ballplayers in real clown outfits that combined shenanigans with good quality athletics. The 14x24" (in frame) paper poster is promoting a matchup with the Illinois Giants of Chicago, a Negro League team. It was common practice for Negro League squads and novelty clubs to play during tours. The paper is protected but exhibits age-related toning. The frame exhibits light wear from handling.
