    Description

1897 Boston Beaneaters Scorebook with Honus Wagner (Rookie) & Cap Anson. Heralded as one of the greatest nineteenth century baseball teams ever assembled, the Boston Beaneaters' pennant-winning season of 1897 was its fourth of the decade. While Boston bested Baltimore for the N.L. pennant, they bowed to them in the Temple Cup (a.k.a. the World's Championship Series), losing four games to one.

"Base Ball Score Book, Especially compiled for the use of Base Ball Reporters And Official Scorers, By Jacob C. Morse of the Boston Herald" scores sixteen Beaneaters games form August 11th to September 1st 1897. Opponents include Boston, New York, Louisville, Cleveland, and Chicago. Thirteen Hall of Famers featured within include Honus Wagner (rookie season), Cap Anson, Jimmy Collins, Hugh Duffy, Billy Hamilton, Kid Nichols, Kid Gleason, George Davis, Amos Rusie, Fred Clark, Jesse Burkett, Bobby Wallace, and Hank O'Day (umpire).

Provides a rare window back in time to games long since forgotten with complete inning by inning accounts, lineup orders and changes, and at bat results. Wear is commensurate with the book's age and use, with the year "July 3, 97" (first game) written in pencil on the front cover. Inside pages are all intact (first two separated from spine) and scored in pencil. A rare turn-of-the-century baseball relic with tremendous historical value.
