Description
1924 World Series New York Giants vs. Washington Senators Program. The 1924 World Series was a thrilling seven-game battle between the Washington Senators and the New York Giants, remembered as one of the most dramatic and historic championships in baseball history. It marked the first and only World Series victory for Washington's franchise (until the Nationals' win in 2019) and stands as a defining moment in early 20th-century baseball.Led by legendary pitcher Walter Johnson, the Senators entered the Series as underdogs against John McGraw's seasoned Giants. The matchup featured tight games, extra innings, and clutch performances on both sides. After six fiercely contested contests, the Series came down to Game 7, played in Washington before an electric home crowd.
In that final game, the Senators overcame an early deficit to tie the score, forcing extra innings. In the bottom of the 12th, with two outs and the bases loaded, a bad-hop grounder by Earl McNeely bounced over third baseman Freddie Lindstrom's head, allowing Muddy Ruel to score the winning run. Walter Johnson, pitching in relief on short rest, earned the win-solidifying his status as one of baseball's greatest heroes.
The 1924 World Series is remembered for its tension, heart, and symbolism: the aging Johnson finally earning a championship, Washington celebrating its only baseball title of the era, and the enduring image of perseverance triumphing in America's pastime.
Offered is a program from that Fall Classic. The center scorecard no longer remains, and the cover is detached from the spine, as heavy wear is exhibited throughout.
