Description

1911 World Series (Philadelphia) Program. Spectacularly rare Shibe Park edition of the 1911 Fall Classic program is the first to reach the auction block in recent memory, neatly pencil scored for the Game Two victory of Eddie Plank over fellow Hall of Famer Rube Marquard. Frank Baker would launch the first of his three World Series home runs this game, earning the nickname that would follow him for the rest of his life and beyond. The condition of the program is admittedly far from ideal, with both covers and four more pages loose from the staple bindings, and significant damage to front and back covers (paper loss, tape stains, rear cover torn in two), but the program is complete otherwise. One must view even these considerable problems in light of the impossibility of locating any surviving examples, however, and bid accordingly. A talented restorationist could surely do wonders, and this may well be your only chance to fill the hole in your collection. Odds are strong that you won't see another example any time soon.
