    Description

1887 New York Giants vs. Boston Beaneaters Scorecard. One of just a small handful of surviving scorecards from nineteenth century National League action, this incredible rarity recounts a nine to three victory for the visiting Boston club at upper Manhattan's Polo Grounds. Penciled into this gorgeous lithographed scorecard are the names of such early legends as Billy Hamilton, Hugh Duffy, Chick Stahl and Kid Gleason, best remembered as the manager of the notorious 1919 Chicago White Sox. Fantastic cover imagery pictures future Hall of Famers Kelly, Ward, Clarkson, Anson, Comiskey and Ewing, and advertises leading Big Apple newspaper The New York Sporting Times. A degree of wear is to be expected, and the spine of the 7x9.5" (when opened) scorecard flirts with separation but does remain attached. All pencil writing remains entirely legible, however, and the wonderful cover graphics are none the worse for wear. Certainly a miracle in any condition, and a great treasure for the early baseball enthusiast.
