Description

1885 Brooklyn Grays (American Association) Vs. New York Giants (National League) Scorecard. We are confident there is no need to explain to collectors just how scarce 19th century scorecards are. The exemplar offered here was issued to a fan at Washington Park where the Brooklyn Grays of the American Association took on the New York Giants of the National League in a post-season inter-league exhibition game. The cover features Brooklyn manager C.M. Hackett, while the inside shows clean pencil notations recounting a battle that saw the hometown team take a 5-2 loss to their N.Y. rivals who featured future Hall of Famers Roger Connor, John Ward, and Mickey Welch. The four-page page scorecard offers a fascinating look at 1880's baseball plus advertisements that hawk printing, furniture and a Hanson's "Sample Room" located just outside of the stadium to drown away one's sorrows. Expected wear includes two creased corners and a brief one-inch segment of spine splitting. Measures 6x7.5" opened.
