1942 World Series (St. Louis Cardinals) Press Pin. The rather inelegant construction of this press pin actually makes it one of the most desirable and valuable of the past seventy-five years. Restrictions upon use of metal as a result of the nation's involvement in the Second World War forced the "St. Louis Button Co." to craft the pin from celluloid and paper instead, resulting in an infinitely more fragile keepsake that puts it high on the endangered species list. This example is the one of finest we've encountered, with little evidence of toning to suggest its advanced age. Manufacturer's stamping on back paper is clearly legible.Auction Info
