Circa 1940 Ted Williams Signed Real Photograph Postcard by George Burke. Look at Ted Williams' statistics on Baseball Reference and you will see a deluge of bold numbers indicating "league leader." The Kid was a regular on the leaderboards in runs, home runs, RBI, walks, average, slugging percentage and more. About the only category he never led in is hits, but he still finished with 2,654 despite missing nearly five years to military service. He was, and ever will be, associated with the best to ever play the game.

When it comes to photography, the name George Burke is likewise among the leading names mentioned for 1930's and up images. Here in this lot, the two great names come together in the form of an original George Burke stamped postcard likely from 1939 or the very early 1940's of "The Splendid Splinter." Williams is shown in what could easily be a rookie year image as Burke's best and most productive years were the latter half of the 1930's. Regardless, the image is a very youthful Williams in Red sox gear, posing for the camera, then signed in vintage 6/10 fountain pen. A few ink skips are all that hold this back from a much higher grade. The postcard itself is unused, although it exhibits several pinholes from long ago. Measures 3.5x5.5." A classic early pose of one of the game's greatest, captured by one of sports photography's greatest. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA, Authentic. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
