    Description

Circa 1915 "Shoeless Joe" Jackson Original Photograph from His Personal Scrapbook, PSA/DNA Type 1.
The moral complexity of the sport's greatest scandal has been the fuel that propels the rare surviving collectibles from the 1919 Black Sox to the pinnacle of collecting intrigue, the event serving as the ragged edge between the rough-and-tumble Dead Ball Era and the Golden Age of Babe Ruth. What had served as the sport's greatest shame is now its greatest point of intrigue, with the scant few relics surviving from that most consequential of baseball seasons fiercely coveted by modern collectors.

The presented lot was the personal souvenir of that scandal's most visible figure, a man whose legacy was transformed from Cooperstown immortal to pariah by a single error in judgment. We find him here at the start of his White Sox tenure, that fact validated by a newspaper article stating such affixed beside the original 8x10" photograph. Some creasing appears at upper right, and the photo is glued to a cardboard slab that had once served as the Jackson family scrapbook, but top photo expert Henry Yee confirms both authenticity and the special source. LOA from PSA/DNA, Type 1.
