Circa 1907 Pittsburgh Pirates Team Cabinet Photograph. Marvelous sepia image of a relaxed Pirates ballclub can be pegged to a three-year span (1905-08) as it derives from the family of Homer Hillebrand, who represented the Steeltown club during that period. That's him standing fourth from left in the back row. Pay no attention to the Cincinnati jersey at center--a closer look will reveal the Pirates' letter "P" on the caps of a couple of players in the front row. Hall of Fame manager Fred Clarke stands at far left. We believe that's Vic Willis standing fourth from right, though the height doesn't seem quite right. Honus Wagner, unfortunately, is absent.

Hot Springs was the spring training home of the Pirates for the first sixteen years of the twentieth century, and this image bears the rather charming imprint on the lower mount, "Black Diamond, The Celebrated Trotting Ostrich, Ostrich Farm, Hot Springs, Ark." Short of a tiny degree of wear at the right edge and upper right corner, the piece survives in marvelous condition, the image measuring 7x9" on the 10x12" mount. This is the first example we've ever seen of this great photo, and we'll be very surprised if it isn't the last as well.
