    Description

Circa 1860 Baseball Team Salt Print Original Photograph. This unidentified team photograph likely dates to the early beginnings of baseball. Produced as a salt print, a process commonly used to create positive images on paper between 1839 and 1860, the image measures 5x7" and is mounted on 7x8.5" cardboard. There is a notation that is partially legible on the right side reading along the lines of, "Pop Co. B.B.C." In all likelihood, this was a company base ball club, although there are no team or player identifiers. Each player is marked with initials for their position.

Perhaps most interesting are the distinctive black, round hats without bills, worn as part of their simple but matching uniforms. A very classic image of the earliest roots of the American pastime, and in Very Good to Excellent condition.
