1954 Joe DiMaggio & Marilyn Monroe Tour of Japan Honeymoon Photograph Album. Frankly, if one of us had bagged Marilyn Monroe, the last thing we would have wanted on our honeymoon was company. But Joltin' Joe decided to make Lefty O'Doul a third wheel on that trip, or, rather, decided to tag along with his old buddy as he helped train baseball teams in Japan. Perhaps it's no surprise that the marriage didn't last a year.

Despite that blink-and-you'll-miss-it term as husband and wife, Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe remain one of the most iconic couples in American history, and this album focuses far more upon the superstar pair than the baseball business at hand. One or both of them appears in all but three of the thirty (30) photos contained within this velvet bound volume, each image measuring 7x9" or larger. We find scattered foxing on some of the album pages, but the photos themselves present flawlessly. This is just the second example to surface in the collecting hobby, the first commanding just short of $22,000 in the 2006 auction of the DiMaggio estate.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
