    Description

1953 Honus Wagner Signed Photograph. Blessed with a skill set handed down to him by the gods, Honus Wagner could win with his bat, his glove, his arm, his legs or his head. In the first decade of a new century, he set records for hitting, base-running and fielding, while remaining beloved off the field and long after his star had waned. Today, 100 years after he played his last Major League game, The Flying Dutchman is still the standard against which all shortstops are measured.

In this spectacular magazine photograph (4x6.5"), Wagner is seen batting in 1908 or 1909, at the height of his powers. Caught in mid-stride, the moment before unleashing his powerful swing, his tremendous physique and raw power are on full display with the Polo Grounds as a backdrop. Signed and inscribed, bold and clear, in 9.5/10 black ink "Honus Wagner, Pirates 53." The fan who mailed this image to Wagner to sign penned "Don't sign on this side" on the verso. Fold and tape remnants don't detract from the display or majesty of the piece. Auction LOA from SGC Authentic.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
