1951 Willie Mays Original News Photograph, PSA/DNA Type 1--Image Used for 1953 Topps Card #244!
Even without its instantly recognizable status as an image from a key trading card of the post-war era, this glorious full-body portrait shot of the Say Hey Kid is a treasure of baseball history. Definitively attributable to Mays' rookie 1951 campaign by the National League 75th Anniversary patch affixed to Mays' left sleeve, the Polo Grounds image is a masterpiece of composition and execution. The balance of light and dark is exceptional, and the focus is razor-sharp.

The original print measures 9x7" in size and bears a handwritten identifier and "International News Photos" stamping on verso. Unquestionably one of the finest Mays photos in the hobby, with slight bends in the white border area mentioned only in the interest of finding any condition issue at all to report. LOA from PSA/DNA, Type 1.
