    Description

1947 Baxter (KS) Whiz Kids Panoramic Team Photograph with Mickey Mantle. This very early Mantle baseball photograph indicates that Mickey had earned his reputation for irresponsibility at a young age, as he is the only youngster that apparently forgot to wear his uniform for photo day. As such, he stands with the coaching staff in the back row beneath a handwritten identification (not in Mickey's hand) identifying him by name and his second base position. The sixteen-year old star of the Champion Whiz Kids Ball Team surely owned one of these panoramic photos back in the day, as did his fellow teammates, but these clearly were never made for public consumption and one must assume that the surviving examples could be counted on a single hand. Vertical creases, the result of the photo being rolled then crushed, crack the photographic emulsion but do not threaten the solidity of the piece, leaving it well within the bounds of attractive display. Size is 8x24". A marvelous relic for the Mantle collector who has it all.
