1940's Satchel Paige Original Photograph, PSA/DNA Type 1. He's remembered for saying, "Don't look back--somebody might be gaining on you," but there's little danger that any Satchel Paige original photograph from his "rookie" season will catch up to the provided specimen. It was a tragedy that Paige wasn't allowed to toe the rubber against Major League Hall of Famers during his formative years on the mound. Rather, he dominated the competition in the Negro Leagues and matchups against the likes of Ruth, Gehrig or even Cobb remain a dream.

Original photos from the Negro Leagues are among the toughest to unearth. This 7x9" photo shows Paige resting comfortably in the dugout. Our guess is he had just shut down the opposition with ease. The reverse has multiple date stamps ("Sep 18 1941" the earliest), editorial notes and a "Detroit News Staff" stamp. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA, Type 1.
