1940's Disturbing Babe Ruth Oversized Photograph. One look at this photographic image of the Babe and it's clear why this print never made it to market. In fact, you are looking at the only such print in existence, rescued by the gentleman that worked the printing press that made it. The gentleman's son, who consigned this piece to Heritage, recalls that it was intended for a promotion involving Coca-Cola, though we cannot attest to this definitively. Regardless, one look by the executives at this image of Ruth, sweaty, needing a shave, his teeth brown as walnut shells, ended any question of this image being used in a commercial sense. The order came down to destroy the twelve existing copies, and the print shop worker trashed eleven. The surviving vintage print on high quality paper is matted and framed to show an image size of 16x22", with full dimensions of 23x29". The image quality is really quite superb regardless of the badly hungover look of its subject. A few very minor wrinkles can be noticed upon close inspection, but from a distance of four feet or more they are all but invisible. This is the Babe that America didn't want you to see.
