    Description

1939 New York Yankees Original News Photograph with DiMaggio, Gehrig & McCarthy, PSA/DNA Type 1.

UPDATE: Lou Gehrig does not appear in this image.

While the New York Yankees of 1939 look ready to run the table yet again, the end of an era was near. The Iron Horse is in uniform as this was taken in April of '39. Shortly after he would be gone from the game forever. Gehrig is joined by Joe Gordon, a youngster named DiMaggio and skipper Joe McCarthy as the main subjects of this original 10.75x7" dugout photo. Each is captured in his pinstriped home jersey with a 1939 Baseball Centennial patch on the left sleeve. The reverse has an "International News Photo" stamp and caption affixed to a black backing - not affixed. Light surface grazing appears on front. Sourced from Harry Evans' collection. LOA from PSA/DNA, Type 1.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
