    Description

1939 Lou Gehrig "Luckiest Man" Speech Original News Photograph, PSA/DNA Type 1. Baseball's equivalent of The Gettysburg Address, the "Luckiest Man" speech delivered by Lou Gehrig to a weeping full house at Yankee Stadium was an oratory masterpiece that still raises goosebumps eight decades later. This most famous image of the Independence Day farewell finds the dying Iron Horse fighting back tears as he bids farewell to his legions of fans and his teammates both past and present. The 9x7" image exhibits some waviness that is only apparent at certain angles of light but our catalog imagery should confirm that the effects are minor. Paper caption on verso announces that this image will be part of an annual display of the top Associated Press photos of 1939 in an early 1940 exhibition at the Empire State Building. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA, Type 1.
