1939 Babe Ruth & Lou Gehrig Embrace During Lou Gehrig Day Type II Photograph. There was nary a dry eye during Lou Gehrig Day July 4, 1939. The Iron Horse was showing the effects of the disease which would ultimately claim his life. Putting behind their feud, Babe Ruth and Gehrig embraced during the ceremony. The moment is forever captured on this 8x10" photo. PSA/DNA has deemed the photo as a Type II restrike as it was made for Columbia Records to promote the release of "Greatest Moment oin Sports" record. Ruth is in his Sunday best and Gehrig sports a grin from ear-to-ear. Some minor cracking is visible on front. Production notes, "Photo from Columbia Records" (sticker) and a "July 15 '65" date stamp appear on back. LOA from PSA/DNA, Type II.
