    Description

1938 Lou Gehrig Signed Photograph with Partial New York Yankees Team on Verso. Thoroughly charming one-of-a-kind large spring training snapshot photograph (5x7") finds the stalwart first baseman looking pleased to be enjoying the Sunshine State as he prepared for his last full season at first base. We've never seen a red ink signature from Gehrig before, but this one is a most welcome rarity, as it projects brilliantly, a conservative 9/10.

Flip the photo and you'll find about twenty more autographs, primarily but not entirely deriving from the pinstriped fold, with notables including Joe McCarthy, Johnny Mize, Joe DiMaggio (light), Lefty Gomez and team owner Jacob Ruppert's brother George. Most are 7/10 or better. An unknown hand provides the March 1938 date.

A small chip has been lost at upper right border, but the image itself is unaffected. Unpersonalized Gehrig photos are very rare, and those signed in bold red ink are otherwise unknown. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
