    Description

1938 Dizzy Dean Original News Photograph, PSA/DNA Type 1. After six standout seasons with the Cardinals, Dizzy was hit with a line drive off the bat of Earl Averill in 1937 All-Star Game which derailed his season and dramatically altered the trajectory of his career. While he was never the same dominating mound presence after that, he did turn in a fine season with the Chicago Cubs the following season, in 1938, with a 7-1 record and a 1.81 ERA as a spot starter. In the image on offer here, Dean is captured mid-delivery versus the Boston Bees on July 17, 1938. The blurred crowd in the background serves to make Dean pop out even more. Some creasing and editorial marks do not really subtract much from this breathtaking. 7.75x10" image. Full LOA from PSA/DNA, Type 1.
