1937 Martin Dihigo Signed Photograph, PSA/DNA Authentic. For collectors of twentieth century Hall of Famers, there are few targets more elusive than this Negro League legend whose twenty-five seasons of professional ball made him a star in three nations (United States, Mexico, and his Cuban homeland). Like most veterans of the loose affiliation of teams and organizing bodies filed under the heading of "Negro League Baseball," Dihigo led a peripatetic professional life, wearing the uniform of fourteen different franchises, but the teams most familiar to an American collecting audience to enjoy Dihigo's services will be the Homestead Grays, the Hilldale Giants and the New York Cubans.

This signed photograph entered the collecting hobby in a 1994 Christies auction, and those examples reaching the auction block since could be counted on a single hand. The deckle-edged image measures 3.25x4.5" in size and is inscribed [translated from Spanish]: "To an admirer [named] Yiya, Martin Dihigo, July 20, 1937." The dates would suggest that the signing took place either in Cuba or Mexico, as a member of the Marianao or the Rojos del Ɓguila de Veracruz.

The image is a bit faded but the blue fountain pen ink on its surface retains an impressive strength of 7/10. We can report a complete absence of creasing, tearing or staining. A marvelous example of one of the hobby's most frustrating rarities. Encapsulated "Authentic" by PSA/DNA.

Just wanted to let you know how pleased I am regarding the sale of my hockey jersey. You were great to work with, you answered all my phone calls and e-mails in a prompt manner, and you did a great job marketing the jersey.
