1936 Tokyo (Yomiuri) Giants U.S. Tour Team Signed Photograph. The Tokyo (Yomiuri) Giants were Japan's first pro baseball team. They were organized by the Yomiuri newspaper company immediately following the successful 1934 U.S. All Star Tour of Japan featuring Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. From 1935 through the present, the Giants have been Japan's team. The Giants' early history is defined by two lengthy U.S. Tours in 1935 and 1936. During the 1936 Tour, the Giants played seventy-seven games against U.S. major league, minor league and amateur opposition, winning forty-three, losing thirty-three and playing to one tie.

Their lineup included sixteen players, including six Japan Hall of Fame members. The key signatures are Eiji Sawamura (back row, far left) and Russian born Victor Starffin (back row, third from left). The remaining four Hall of Famers are Takeo Tabe, Shigeru Mizuhara, Haruyasu Nakajima and Katsumi Shiraishi. The manager, Yoshio Asanuma also signed his name is seated in the second row in the middle wearing a suit. The other two men wearing suits are unknown. The inscription to the right says this photo was taken aboard the Chichibu Maru ship as they returned to Japan.

Photo measures 4.5x6" in size and presents only minimal edge and corner wear. Signatures are uniformly 9+/10. Photo remains attached by corner mounts to a scrapbook page with another photo and a pair of business cards, none of which appear to relate to baseball. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
