1936 Chicago White Sox Panoramic Photograph from the Herold "Muddy" Ruel Collection. Forty years old and two seasons retired from playing, Muddy turned his considerable baseball skills toward more cerebral pursuits, using his wisdom rather than his skilled throwing arm to win games. Coach Ruel poses with Ted Lyons, Monty Stratton and the gang in this 8x35" image at the Pittsburgh Pirates' Perris Hill Ball Park training facilities in San Bernardino, California. A five-inch tear at far right crosses Muddy's image and his two neighbors to his right, but the photo is otherwise quite strong, with only a few moderate vertical wrinkles caused by the rolled image being crushed at some point. Matting and framing should leave this latter concern all but invisible.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
