    Description

1933 All-Star Game Panoramic Photograph. A tradition was born this day as the finest players of the American and National Leagues faced off at Chicago's Comiskey Park, a match held in conjunction with the 1933 World's Fair in Chicago and originally slated to be just a one-time event. The rousing success inspired the game's installation as an annual match, and the enormous crowd of spectators seen within this remarkable shot from the center field bleachers is all the proof one would need. Enormous at 12x30" not counting its modern frame, the photo is the work of Chicago's "Kaufmann-Fabry" studios, whose name appears at lower right. Text at upper left provides the details of the day. Inset team photos appear in the sky above the infield grandstands, and it appears to be Babe Ruth at the plate. Condition is spectacular, with a small flaw at the upper right corner where the emulsion stuck to the glass, well clear of the focal point of the shot. Well over 99% of the area remains problem-free. A remarkable trip back in time to a remarkable afternoon in Depression-era ball.
