    Description

1932 Babe Ruth & Lou Gehrig Opening Day Original News Photograph, PSA/DNA Type 1. It has been widely reported that the sport's greatest slugging tandem, despite the enormous success that they shared, labored in mutual antipathy throughout most of their professional involvement. Presented is a charming piece of evidence to the contrary, an image that finds the pair sharing a light-hearted moment just prior to the start of their last joint World Championship season.

The original paper caption on verso sets the scene: "Babe Ruth reverses the usual procedure. Here he is taking a picture of Lou Gehrig, his slugging teammate, before the start of the opening game of the season, between the New York Yankees and the Philadelphia Athletics at Shibe Park, Phila., April 12. The Yankees started auspiciously by walloping Connie Mack's team 12-6 with Babe Ruth and Sammy Byrd contributing two homers a piece for the Yanks."

Photo measures 8x6" in size and presents without any condition flaws of distraction. Certainly one of the most recognizable images of the iconic pair. LOA from PSA/DNA, Type 1.
