Description

1931 Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig & Joe McCarthy Signed Photograph.

UPDATE: We have received some inquiries about the absence of an autograph LOA from PSA/DNA for this lot. The pictured LOA is how the service now implements joint authentications for both photograph type and autographs. In the "Comments" section of the letter, you will see that the autographs have indeed been certified as authentic.

The sudden and tragic passing of Miller Huggins late in the 1929 season found the mighty Yankee warship suddenly without a rudder at an inopportune time when Connie Mack's second great dynasty was beginning to take hold of the American League. So after a year adrift with former pitcher Bob Shawkey in charge, owner Jake Ruppert brought in recently dismissed Cubs skipper Joe McCarthy, beginning a fruitful sixteen seasons of service that would add seven World Championship rings and an eventual Hall of Fame plaque to the Yankee trophy case.

Here we find the newest pinstriped arrival with his two greatest weapons, their black fountain pen signatures applied to a photo from their first spring training together, as road jerseys would revert to their standard "New York" text for the 1931 regular season. Each autograph rates 8/10 or better, and the 5x3.75" photo exhibits some bent corners but no flaws that distract from the central focus. LOA from PSA/DNA, Type 1.
